Biography

Thanks for visiting my site. I am a cinematographer specializing in natural history documentary production (credits include camerawork for 6 National Geographic TV films). As an active member of the Washington DC production industry I work on diverse projects including television, documentary, advertising and corporate work. As a New Hampshire native I developed a love and appreciation for the natural world at an early age, and continue to pursue that passion today through my work as a natural history cinematographer.

Field Experience

I have extensive field experience, including wildlife viewing, trekking, research and world travel. Among other clients, I have two years of experience working as a field cameraman for National Geographic. I am comfortable working in extreme natural and social environments and my travels include trips to India, Mongolia, Svalbard and Romania, among others. After many years of wildlife viewing and work with scientists and park rangers, I have developed the skills to navigate difficult terrain and approach wildlife in an effective and respectful manor. While filming, my focus is on capturing animal behavior while ensuring the protection of the animals and environment. I also completed three years of ornithology field research (evolutionary ecology of Common Yellowthroat warblers) during my undergraduate biology studies at Skidmore College.

I am knowledgeable in all modern HD camera systems including professional ENG systems, high-end cinema cameras, HDSLRs and specialty cameras like the Iconix and GoProHD. I am also experienced with high-quality HD recording units like the Nanoflash and KiPro, including setup and data management. In addition to handheld and tripod work, I am a Steadicam operator and often enhance production value through jib and slider operation.
